Celiac Awareness Month Oct 3, 2008 by Crystal
October is Celiac Awareness Month! The Celiac Sprue Association offers several suggestions about how we can individually help raise awareness of celiac disease. I personally pledge to share something I’ve learned about the disease and gluten-free diet with someone new each day. Today, I had lunch with a group of colleagues, and I have to admit that lately I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how understanding and gracious people are when I explain my dietary restriction. Celiac Awareness Month presents the perfect opportunity to continue spreading the word about celiac disease and gluten-free living. Thank you for reading our blog, and please continue to check back for more gluten-free cosmetic, grocery, and restaurant reviews, delicious recipes, and helpful resources!

I too am trying to spread the word of gluten and celiac around as many corners as I can. My twenty year old daughter was diagnosed with Celiac Disease July of 2008. It has been daunting, trying to adapt to the new gluten free lifestyle she must adhere to. I have contacted our state and local legislators as well as local administrative officials who have been more than sympathetic. We need more however…we need attention, knowledge, information and money for research and a cure. The more we all speak about it, the more exposure we get. The more the public sees it out in view, the more likely they will realize they know another person with the disease. This will lead to more donations and a possible cure.
Thanks for your comment, David! It’s wonderful to hear that you’re being so proactive in spreading awareness about celiac disease.
